This guidance shows the areas of difference and the differing requirements for a 3.5t van compared to a 4.25t e-van.
This guidance has been produced to help alleviate some of the confusion that exists when operating a 4.25t e-van which has different requirements than a 3.5t diesel van
This includes the need to MOT a 4.25t van as though it were an HGV and limits on how far the e-van can travel from base are having a significant impact on people’s ability to make the transition.
There is also some confusion about the announcement the Conservative Government made about allowing towing and removing the 5 hour training requirement, which is yet to be legislated for.
The BVRLA has worked closely with colleagues within the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) and Department for Transport (DfT) to help clarify some of the points of difference and hope this guide proves useful to members and their customers.
Some of the issues appear to have been caused by vehicles being registered incorrectly – members are encouraged to ensure they have been registered as N2 derogated EVs.
